We Stand with Rick Warren and Barack Obama Print E-mail

94251484_b3e5461f2e Right-wing religious leaders are attacking the purpose-driven Pastor Rick Warren for inviting Senator Barack Obama to speak at a seminar about AIDS.  Why the attacks?  Because they disagree with Obama's politics.  Well, we're hitting back.  Check out the letter that we've helped organize.  About 30 religious leaders are standing up for the notion of -- imagine this -- people working together to save lives.

An open letter to pastors across the country

November 30, 2006

Dear Pastor:

Several right-wing religious organizations, including the National Clergy Council, recently blasted Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church for inviting Senator Barack Obama to speak on World AIDS Day this Friday, December 1.  It's unfortunate that these groups would exploit the Christian faith to advance their divisive agenda -- an agenda that gives almost exclusive attention to a few wedge issues while ignoring the diversity of problems plaguing American communities.

We reject the creation of an unbiblical litmus test to exclude believers from the body of Christ.  We are called to the ministry of reconciliation and the liberation of all people, spiritually and socially.

We also wonder why any organization claiming to represent believers in Jesus Christ would choose to play what amounts to partisan politics instead of encouraging our leaders to address the scourge of AIDS.

AIDS has claimed the lives of 25 million people since 1981.  Forty million people across the globe, including 2 million children, live with this wretched disease.  And nearly 7 million people are now in desperate need of life-saving drugs, without which they will die.  In the face of this crisis, it boggles our minds and offends our God-given sense of justice that these groups would choose to attack Senator Obama and Reverend Warren -- Christians both -- for working together to stamp out AIDS.

It is time for believers to unite under the banner of truth and work to address our society's most pressing problems.  The time for scare tactics and divisiveness is over.  As leaders in the Christian community, we will not stand silent in the face of these attacks, but will instead serve as voices for equality, fairness, and justice for all people.

Sincerely,

The Right Wing leaders first allegiance is to wealth. They try to share their allegiance to the idea of Free Markets with Jesus Christ. It CANNOT be done. You cannot be " a good American" and a good Christian. You will find the ideals of one tearing you away from the other. This is just as true as the flesh warring with the Spirit. How many times can I tell you that you won't stand before Washington, Lincoln, Frankiln or any other " great American" at judgement. Lastly, their are many artists, many scientists, many poets, many leaders in all history, but only one truly unique person who never sinned.

I whole heartedly endorse rebuking an attack by Conservative Christians that as witness has the sounds of politics instead of the love of God.

Were the purpose of inviting Obama to speak was to lead anyone astray, then severe criticism would be properly called for. As a Christian I will openly and loudly say that (some) Democratic  leaders DO NOT represent me in this world. Nor do I endorse these same despickable who stand on issues that God condemns.

However we are to be witnesses in this world, not law givers, as so many Christians believe is their purpose instead of Gods'. Be it understood that 'spiritual judgment' is not in producing laws, and mature Christians should know the difference.

I would ask these Christians to remember God is all powerful, having all authority, and we are to use mature judgment in issues to be sure we are within the will of God. Apostle Paul it appears by some would thrown out for even thinking that he would become all things to all men so that by all possible means he might save some.

We are servants of God (first), and if in politics this is necessary, let us not become so yoked to one political body that we cast out as is said the baby with the bath-water.

Lord bless,  DeWayne Benson

Great to see this.  I am a supporter of Obama and was appalled at the baseless attacks coming from the religious right.  It was just nonsense and an inability to join together with others who disagree with you on an entirely different issue.

>>We reject the creation of an unbiblical litmus test to exclude believers from the body of Christ.  We are called to the ministry of reconciliation and the liberation of all people, spiritually and socially.

Jesus certainly dined with sinners etc, but he also told them to change their ways.  He did not invite them to speak in the temple or address his apostles as sinners.

Sen. Obama supports the Partial Birth Abortion procedure and legal abortion, and unlike lay people, he is in a position to promote and protect these barbaric proceedures.  He has not recanted his position, and therefore, has not repented.

This is the problem, an unrepentant person should not be addressing these issues.

Sen. Obama should be encouraged to recant his support of abortion, an act which does unto others what one wouldn't do to themselves.   Sen. Obama is in the position of great harm to the least of our brothers by not repenting and protecting the least amongst us.

Finally, labeling something as right wing only shows where these pastors are coming from - the left wing.  I don't think Christ would feel comfortable in any wing but Gods.

No, our allegiance is to responsible behavior.  Most AIDS victims don't display this and nowhere do I see you lefties condemn this.  They have a choice, behave responsibly or suffer from a terrible desease because of your reckless lifestyle!

I am a pro-choice Roman Catholic who believes that abortion is a choice, but an awful one.  I think Senator Obamas' stance on abortion was not formulated lightly, and is consistent with his activism in combating AIDS.  Africa is being ravaged by uncontrolled birth rates, crushing debt, murderous hatreds and ignorance-fueled epidemics such as AIDS.  The AIDS pandemic is upon us, and as Christians we are called upon to see to its' eradication.  We are called upon to educate whenever possible and to lead by example.  I applaud Pastor Rick for his compassion and courage, and I pray that other evangelicals at least refrain from drawing attention away from his efforts to make a difference.

7/54. The letter misses the point....
Written by Faithfully progressi  | Dec. 01, 06 14:36

This letter is missing the point, and its painfully evident through its characterization of the originators of the intial "Letter to Rick Warren" as "right-wing," rather than as abortion opponents - an ignorant notion that is repeated again and again, and slighting those of us involved in the pro-life movement who are progressive.

The issue was abortion, and Obama's outright support for it.  Believe me when I say that I stand against killing, whether its in the womb, Iraq, or on your own dinner plate, BUT abortion kills more people, and at the most innocent stage of human life.  Sure, Obama may be a crusader against AIDS, but so are many many other people who do not believe the shady notion that its ok to kill human life at the prenatal stage.  Bring them in instead (and while they're at it, how about finding someone other than that showboat Bono....he could do a lot more with his millions than spend it on flashy clothes and big sunglasses).

Be realistic - Obama's name has been floating around as a Democratic candidate for the 2008 presidency, and he's looking for opportunities to get his name out in a positive light.  Rick Warren gave it to him.

Dear Sir, or Madam,

With all due respect, I have a question to ask. Are you saying in your letter that conservative Christains no longer have a right to speak out, and participate in the discussion if we disagree with the people you chose to repersent the Christain Faith. It seems to me what you are saying,is that If people of Faith take a conservative point of veiw, we have no right to carry, this world view into the public domain. In other words take you conservative Christain Faith and leave it out of the public square, and the Church as well.

 Thank You for your attention,

In his online response, Rafael Nieto said that Abortion is a choice but an awful one, but he's still pro-choice. This is probably similar to Obama's position. But this is not only an illogical and ignorant position but it's in some cases a hypocritical position. Let me explain:

If Abortion is NOT the killing of a human being then why does Nieto or Obama think it's AWFUL? But they say it is. For if abortion was merely the removal of unwanted tissue, why is it an AWFUL choice?

Do we say that having your appendix removed is an AWFUL choice? No it's morally insignificant.

BUT both Obama and Nieto KNOW that abortion is an AWFUL choice, why? Because it is the killing of a scientifically and rationally provable human that is morally identical to a 1 day old preemie. Thus we can only conclude that either Obama is ignorant or he is hypocritical. He KNOWS that abortion is AWFUL and the killing of a human, but he allows it, or he can't logically put together 2 and 2 to realize that his position makes no sense.

So either stop with the hypocritical nonsense about abortion being awful or stop with the pro-choice position.

For a full destruction of the pro-abortion argument using science and logic and without appealing to religion see http://www.acns.com/~nmammen/sermon/Abortion_Response_Combined_Handout.pdf

10/54. Who Would Jesus Heal?
Written by klhayes  | Dec. 01, 06 17:53
I know that many Christian conservatives want people to behave in a sexually responsible manner, i.e., no pre- or extra-marital sex. But there are people who are infected with AIDS who don't have a choice. The 13 year old girl who is the sixth wife of a 40 year old man in Africa does not have a choice; the baby whose mom did not get AIDS medication and now had the disease did not have a choice; the woman who is faithful to her no -good cheating husband does not have a choice, someone who is raped by someone who has AIDS does not have a choice...there are a lot of innocents in this situation (for those who are "pro-life," let me emphasize that these people ARE innocent).  And the issue of premarital sex is long over.  We are not going back to a time where most people waited until marriage..if there was ever a time. I honestly don't know one person in my family who waited until they were married to have sex.  The unmarried couples who go to your church is most likely having premarital sex, your adult children are probably having pre-marital sex.....whether you admit it or not.  People do not deserve to die because they have premarital sex!  That is not a christian attitude at all. AIDS is a seriuos and devastating problem and if Jesus were here, guess who he would heal???  Read the gospels.

11/54. Mr.
Written by Neil Mammen  | Dec. 01, 06 18:24

I'm not sure why this is relevant. No one has argued that AIDS should not be addressed or fought nor has anyone argued that AIDS is a good thing. I think you have created a strawman fallacy. The issue here was if Obama should be the one addressing this issue to Evangelicals. Changing the topic is not an effective way of winning an argument.

That comment was very Christian of you Starbuck.

Evil is evil, no matter what the degree.  Obama's position on abortion is nothing short of evil.  According to this board, AIDS has killed 25 million people worldwide since 1981.  I will grant you that, although I am not certain it is verifiable.  Abortion on the other hand has killed 33 MILLION people in America since 1972.  AND THAT IS AMERICA ALONE.

Why doesn't "Pastor" Warren use his pulpit to fight the biggest killer the world knows, a vacuum tube in the hands of a murdered in a white coat.

An open letter to Rick Warren:

2Pe 2:1-22

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. (2) And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. (3) And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (4) For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; (5) if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; (6) if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; (7) and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (8) (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); (9) then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, (10) and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones, (11) whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord. (12) But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, (13) suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. (14) They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! (15) Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing, (16) but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet's madness. (17) These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. (18) For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. (19) They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. (20) For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. (21) For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. (22) What the true proverb says has happened to them: "The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire."

15/54. Faithful to God, not to Democrats.
Written by Caesar Arevalo  | Dec. 01, 06 20:56

There is not such thing as "right wing religious leaders." That is an invention of the left to undermine Christians who believe in the inerrancy and inspiration of the Bible and in the revelation of the gospel preached by Jesus Christ according to the scriptures.

Rick Warren has sold out fallen in the political correctness philosophy of the post-Christian America by inviting politicians as Obama to stand in a Christian church. Senator Obama represents the anti-Christian crowd in the socialist Democrat party. He represents the party of Dean, Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Pelosy, Murtha, and the Kennedy. All of them against the protection of the unborn and supporters of homosexualism.

The true is that the ones who are exploiting the Christian faith to advance their political and divisive agenda are this "Faithful Democrats" who endorse the Marxist ideology of Jim Wallis and Tony Campolo. Actually, it is these individuals, who under the disguise of Christianity, are promoting agendas contrary to what the Bible really teaches.

These socialist ideologues are excluding the real teaching of the ministry of Christ and the Church, which according to the Bible is primarily the preaching of the Kingdom of God. This means the repentance of our sins and the receiving of Christ by faith as Lord and Savior. When the bible speaks of reconciliation and liberation, it is not talking about the developing of a social-Marxist agenda; it is talking about reconciliation with God and the liberation of the power of sin from our lives. Social action is based in the holiness of God, and not in the application of Marxism in the church.

The church has been always preaching abstinence as a way to prevent sexual transmitted diseases. Also, the affirmation of the plan of God: that marriage between a man and a woman are the place for a healthy sexual life. However, anti-Christian liberal Democrats has been continually attacking Christians for teaching these principles. The liberal hypocrisy has not limits. They confuse faithfulness to God with faithfulness to his rotten democrat party.

What could be more outrageous that the denial that AIDS is disseminating greatly among male homosexuals in America and the liberal anti-Christian media and Democrat politicians hide this fact from the American people? If Senator Obama were really serious about stopping the spreading of AIDS, then he would denounce publicly the anti natural life style of homosexuals, which is the main source of AIDS in America.

True Christians must be firm and fearless in preaching the Gospel of Christ and unmasking the Marxist ideology behind of these so-called "progressive" Christians. True Christians must reject the political correct language of: "equality," "fairness," and "justice for all people." According to the Bible God creates us all, but it is not enough of being creatures of God, we must accept him as our Savior and Lord. We must repent from our sins. There will be not "equality" "fairness" and "justice for all" if America continue legalizing the murder of the unborn and the tolerance of homosexualism as something natural before the eyes of God. The justice of God is not the same as the justice of men.

All justice proceeds from God, the creator of all life. God is the source of salvation. The problem of humanity is not poverty, AIDS, homophobia, racism, or American imperialism. The problem, according to the Old and New Testament is the rebellion of man against God, his creator. It is this rebellion that causes all social illness in our society. Ultimately, it is the faith in Christ that makes a new man, not Marx or the application of Marxist principles. There is not need to invent a new "gospel" based in an atheistic ideology as Wallis and other demagogues do. We do not need to change our theology in order to help the poor and the needy. We just need to put in practice the love of God for our neighbors and preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God according to the scriptures, not according to Marx.

16/54. Ears to Hear
Written by Rev LST  | Dec. 01, 06 22:45

The letter written regarding Rick Warren totally ignores the fact that Warren has become a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a distinctly one world government organization working to destroy America.  The war on Christianity and morality in America has been led by the CFR.  Warren cannot be ignorant of the sinister operations of this organization.  I suspect that he is in whole hearted agreement with their aims.  The wolf in sheep's clothing.  It is amazing what money and power can do to a man.

I am dismayed when I hear these socialists/communists like Obama claim to be Christians.  No man or woman can be a Christian if they support abortion or socialism or if they don't believe the Bible is the Word of God.

No one seems to remember Jesus words, "If you do it to the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me."  Every abortion is being done to Christ himself.  How can a man claim to love Jesus when he supports killing Him thousands of times daily with abortions?  We must stop the sin that results in the need for abortions.

The AIDS situation has mushroomed, just like every other malady our country and the world faces, due to sin.  The homosexual spits in the face of God claiming special knowledge allowing same sex relations when the creator clearly designed us to be heterosexual and so stated in Genesis.  I know, I know, you liberals don't believe that man is sinful by nature ("for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"), but apparently God disagrees with you.  The unfortunate thing is that had the sinful behavior that caused the AIDS epidemic to spread been addressed in the first place, we would not have millions dying today.  But you see, you liberals refused to obey the scripture and call homosexual behavior sin and refused to demand that those with the disease be quarantined, so now millions are paying the price for your political correctness.  You will have to answer for that.  You see, the sins of the lost affect even the innocent.  Now you scramble to try to stop the epidemic you could have stopped when it began.

"Thou shalt not steal."  This commandment eliminates socialism/communism as a viable alternative for Christians, since the basis of socialism/communism is stealing from those who have earned what they have to give it to those who have not earned anything.  Again, it is sin.

We are commanded to "go into all the world and preach the Gospel', but you liberals condemn us for preaching the true Gospel that Jesus is the only way.  If He is not the only way, then we are all lost.  Oh, I forgot that you guys don't believe the Bible is the true Word of God, so you just reinterpret it to suit your needs.

I wonder if any of the folks who signed this letter of support for Rick Warren have the Ten Commandments posted in their churches?

What, you mean there are rules we have to live by after we become a Christian?

Written by VIRGINIA FITZGIBBON  | Dec. 02, 06 00:00

Dear Faithful Democrats,

I find your railing against "right wing" Christians with a so-called agenda to be very offensive. I love Rick Warren, and I understand what he was doing on behalf of people with HIV-AIDS and those at risk. But I also understand why he received criticism for having Mr. Obama on his podiem. It had NOTHING to do with politics--it had everything to do with moral obligations for those of us who think that the killing of little babies is an abomination that very well may see that we as a nation lose blessings from the Lord. It may very well end our quality of living as we know it. Our society has seen a downward spiral rapidly come about. Every time one thinks they have seen and heard it all, something more unthinkable comes along. There is a basis for this. We are losing our morals, principles, and our view of life itself. How can a young man or woman find it to be wrong to take another life, when the very laws of our land have deemed it acceptable "in certain situations". How can we expect our next generations to have ANY respect for life, and the sanctity thereof. The message we are sending is that human life holds no value and is dispensible if it inconveniences us, if it's causing us a problem. We see this happening more and more at younger and younger ages. ALL human life must be valued and deemed sacred. Yes, being involved with the terrible HIV-AIDS situation is very important. But we cannot stop there. One should not throw his principles and values, and beliefs out the window for any cause. I don't think that is what Pastor Warren was intending to doing, but neither were "Right Wingers" being unreasonable in their criticism and their view. By the way, speaking of devisiveness. Refering to another group of Christians as Right Wingers for standing up for their beliefs is about as devisive as what you were accusing. Saying that it was political for standing up for one's principles, values, and beliefs should never be considered devisive. You railed against it simply because you found it to be Politically Incorrect. Political Incorrectness has become a very big problem when one cannot stand for what one believes. We cannot be ruled by Political Incorrectness.

Thank You,
V. Fitzgibbon

18/54. WHAT IS THE POINT?
Written by Faithful Father of F  | Dec. 02, 06 00:39

I see Jesus, sitting with the Father. Looking at a bunch of people who claim to be following them, yet they can't wait to throw stones, call names and drag the name of Christ through the mud by claiming to be the "tolerant" ones, the ones who forgive everyone.....yet don't want anything to do with anyone who might back President Bush, or God forbid, be against the murder of unborn children.

My family and I have a litmus test for all politicians and pastors. "Do they back the wholesale slaughter of unborn children or not." Period. God's WORD has nothing but condemnation for those who foster abortion or look the other way. I just can't see Jesus up on that pulpit with a smile on His face and tolerating a politician who refuses to stand for the weakest and most fragile.  Just take your rhetoric on aids and substitute "unborn child", for it.  Oh, I'm so sorry....that would be politically incorrect and intolerant.  In my book you cannot back the Democrat party and stay true to the teachings of the living God.  Back it up with scripture and I'll listen, otherwise.

It's only fitting that Rick should be underfire, and the fact that he's being defended by left-wing psuedo-religious groups and morons like you, and not just for inviting that religious phony, Barack, who shares the same anti-Christian views that you do, is ample evidence of your total and complete hypocrisy..Warren should also continue to be castigated for his accepting the junk science that blames man for global warming, and he most DEFINITELY should be excoriated for for his trip to Syria, and for lying about and defending one of the most brutal of all islamic terrorist regimes in the world.

Dear faithful Demos,

You must be too proud of your new   identity in that you loved to be democrats first and christians last. I continue to wonder how most of you are able to live harmoniously with the two compartments in your brains. The Jesus most of you always try to invoke is the not the compassionate Christ I read about in the Bible. The Jesus of the Bivle loved the sinners but not their sins and often tell them to sin no more so something worst should not befall them. You often too fast invoke the compassion of Christ whenever it suits youe purpose.

How you could justify a party whose platform calls for abortion on demand, gay marriage, devaluation of anything christian and secularization of our childrens in schools is mind boggling to me.The path you have chosen is not too far from that of Dathan in the Old testament. Christianity to most of you is only on name. You are the true church of Lodecia  for with all your riches and intellectual cridential your remain soiritually bancrupt.

Sa for Rich Warren, it will not be too long before he become a larger than Jesus in his own delusion. How many controversies have he been involved in just within this year. It seems he is no more able to handle his success. We must keep on building whatever we are building but when the Lord appear he will determine which of our work will stand. I am not here to condem any one but I strongly feel you guys are on the wrong side of the fence. I was born and raised in Africa and as such can identify with Barak Obama but for Obama politics is first and hypocrisy is at the base of whatever he is doing. A noble name in the name of a noble cause executed with wordly agenda most often ends up acheiving nothing meaningful towards the stated goal. If Rich Warren needs worldly men to help him fulfill his call for a social change then he should go back to his prayer room to consult the Lord for a better way and guide line.Moses needed no Ramses to help him let the people go.

A question of semantics:

Perhaps it is the word  'opponent'  that encourages us to be adversarial.  It seems that many will take the other side just to Be on the otherside. It's as if we are afraid we won't be heard unless we are 'opposing'. Or should I say 'imposing'?  Yeah, that's it, that's the ticket!  To question or challenge anyone who come together in the name of Jesus is an IMPOSER!

22/54. Why all thesePastors and Rick Warren are Wrong
Written by broncos  | Dec. 02, 06 15:23
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Now, I ask myself, what could any "so called" pastor" not understand about such an easy to understand Scripture like the one above from 2:CR 6:14?  You cannot have fellowship with darkness if you are in the light;  you cannot be friends with the worldly system, YET THIS IS WHAT THESE PASTORS WOULD HAVE US DO.

SO, Pastor Warren, I ask you, does that mean we have to edit this passage out of our Bibles now?  Or, do you get a special dispensation from God, because you are such a BIG MAN on CAMPUS these days?  You are holding hands with a snake oil salesman like Obama who advocates killing babies; this is called the Babylonian system or the worship and sacrifice to Baal.   They used to birth the babies and then throw them into the fire; we are just so much more advanced now, as we have figured out fancier ways to throw them into the fire earlier, but it is still Baal worship.

And, you would have us hold hands with a man who calls himself a Christian, yet supports this ghastly practice?  I don't think so.  READ THAT VERSE PASTOR AND REALIZE THAT RIGHTEOUSNESS HATH NO FELLOWSHIP WITH UNRIGHTEOUSNESS!

DO YOU EVEN PREACH THE GOSPEL RICK WARREN?  OR, ARE YOU JUST CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT THE WORLD THINKS?  YOU HAVE BEEN CAUGHT UP IN A WEB OF LIES AND DECEIT (CAN YOU SAY SYRIA), AND NOW YOU ARE HOLDING HANDS WITH BABY KILLERS.

I warn you with this Scripture Pastor Warren, 2 Timothy 4:3 is speaking directly to you and your false doctrine and teaching as you stray from the Gospel and the true teachings of Jesus Christ:

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

23/54. Greed vs Murder
Written by stanjz  | Dec. 02, 06 17:35
How many verses can you find where Christ speaks against greed and weigh them against the number you find about murder. It's not only the number; but the quality of the verses as it pertains to measuring the weight of that particular sin. For instance, Christ said it was almost impossible for a rich man to get to heaven- Mark 10:17-23, but never anything as harsh for a murder. Also,Christ speaks out very harshly against greed from many different angles. He said anyone who tries to save his life dowm here will lose it...what would it profit a man to gain the whole world, but lose his soul- Math 16:25,26. Christ says that if you love your love down here, you will lose it, but if you despise it, you will exchage it for eternal life- John 12:25 Christ explicitly tells us not to store treasures here on earth( listening wallstreet) Math 6:19- and many many more. "What happines for you who are poor...but what sorrows await the rich, they have their only happiness down here, they are fat and prosperous now, but a time of awful hunger is before them." Luke 6:20,24,25 Christ didn't say some rich. It's how much you keep in light of the need, not how much you give. There are so many verses speaking out against wealth, that it boggles the mind. Right Wing leaders and Evangelicals keep getting a pass on this. Why isn't it impossible for a murderer to get to heaven. Because it is usually a one time mistake. Anyone can be driven to kill given the right circumstances. Also, murder is often done in the heat of passion . Even our own courts give lighter sentences to people whose crimes aren't committed in cold blood. But greedy people spend in cold blood. They spend millions on meaningless baubles, while their fellow man suffers unendingly in pain. They might as well take their private jet to some of the most impoverished lands and buy expensive items right in front of the people, because it means nothing to God that they are 9,000 miles away while they do it.

"AIDS has claimed the lives of 25 million people since 1981. Forty million people across the glove, including 2 million children, live with this wretched disease."

Just by shear numbers, the bigger problem is abortion of which Mr. Obama supports. Since 1981, AIDS has claimed 1 million lives per year. Abortion, on the other hand, since its legalization, has claimed the lives of 14 milion babies per year in the USA alone. If legislators and judges would pass and enforce laws ending abortions, then maybe this God that both sides are espousing would end AIDS.

28/54. Can you tell me how a person becomes a christian?
Written by Randy  | Dec. 04, 06 14:20

One question - how does a person become a christian?  As I understand

scripture it's a relationship with God through his son Jesus - the only way

mentioned in scriptrue.  There are not many ways to God only ONE way.  Jesus

himself stated that HE was the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE and that NO ONE

could come to the FATHER - that is GOD - except through HIM.

I rest my case - now, can anyone tell me different?  Be careful of your answer

because it's most likely unbiblical based on the above paragraph with the

quote from the gospel of John chapter 14.

Dear "Online Christian Community",

It's pretty simple about Rick Warren.  He's supposed to be a Pastor.  Instead he's acting like a politician.  The gospel is not about politics and social issues.  It's about the gospel, that is coming to salvation in Jesus Christ alone.  The other issues of poverty and feeding the hungry are to be by-products of a life changed by Christ.

Exploiting the Christian faith?  I would ask who is really exploiting the Christian faith?  Maybe both of you are!  The Christian faith is about salvation in no other than Jesus Christ.  Reconciliation to God through Christ and therefore individuals are liberated one person at a time.

It does ring hypocritical for a pro-choice politician to speak at Warren's church.  But it doesn't surprise me about Saddleback because they have been compromising for a long time.  The worst part of this is not political but what it does to the real issue of the gospel!  The gospel is being defined as social issues as the priority, when in reality the Bible makes it clear it's repentance from sin and a changed life as a result.  It's too bad the baby in the manger's message is lost because of wanting to score politically!  Is there such a thing as those who call themselves Christians but in fact are nothing of the sort?  Does the Bible talk about those that would call themselves Christians but are not?

Faithful Democrat? This is an oxymoron! It’s like saying righteous devil. The Bible, not the polluted versions such as Living, Renovare and the Message, states, 1Jo 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Rick Warren is false to his very core, and so this so-called Faithful Democrat organization. These are waist deep in half truths, the lurid mixing of what is holy and filthy, and self-righteous platitudes masquerading as truth.

34/54. Issue of Aids and Christian Leaders Expressing Concern
Written by DeWayne E. Benson  | Dec. 08, 06 15:57

The issue of aids is of serious concern, the suffering of many is well documented, the disease having spread to many even children and babies. And regarding Christian leaders expressing concern, there may well have been more emotional expression than needed instead of Christian love.

As a Christian who has warned about expressing emotion rather than understanding of an issue or problem, the undercurrent of this issue is being lost in subsequent rebuke that itself is divisive. It is necessary to view all sides of this discussion.

Christians need always witness on issues with love, this involves concern for the many who suffer the results of aids. Christians also need be aware where this dreaded disease originates. It is true this disease has spread, it now may be found in many group's and people. Yet the underlying concern of these Christian leaders must also be addressed, and this is the agent known for the earliest progression of aids. This was and may still be primarily due to drugs, homosexual, and sexual error's of hetrosexual involved in habit's of error.

I will state for all Christians, do not berate these Christian leaders being implied as haters and homophobic. These Christians are not haters of people (even called sinners), these are haters of sin and as such they should be. Also I give warning about evil people who will use this misunderstood situation to drive a wedge between Christians. And this is what I believe is being done.

Sin (is) a sin, I am a sinner, yet in repentance I know the Lord can make me a better person at the same time in forgiving me my sin. In my life I have many times been rebuked, deservedly, and hopefully learned from the experience. I hope as well that these people involved in homosexuality, drugs, and sexual error see the serious and dangerous conditions involved, and learn. I pray that the warning of Christian leaders in this affair is not lost on those who need learn.

35/54. Where's the real blame
Written by Dave Parrish  | Dec. 12, 06 00:01

Let's really blame who is to blame here about why Barack is taking the space that should be reserved to be Holy Ground for Preaching God' s Word.  It must be God's fault!  He's making this happen......

Yet, God has allowed this world to live in the consequences of sin.  All the curses upon us we are due!  We all deserve Hell.  I deserved Hell and was going there except the sin, yes the SIN I was living in, cut and broke me.  I don't have a problem with trying to help people who have diseases, but Rick Warren is another worldly establishe "saint" just like Mother Teresa.  They comfort people on these people's way to the Lake of Fire.  This is the agency of Satan.  Preaching the Word of God, that we are evil and unrighteous and deserving of hell's judgment and preaching the LAW as the mirror to show people their sins is a Pastor / Evangelist first priority.  This has been left aside because we love People more than we love God in these last days.  Perilous times are here, you all who signed this document love yourselves and your mission and your people more than you love God.  If you loved God you would never bring a purveyor of evil like Barack, a person who is promoting the murder of the most helpless of helpless, the unborn humans.  He is a promoter of ideas from the pit of Hell and you guys are defending him and his promoter Rick Warren.  You have lost or never had the FEAR of God and most likely you guys have never been convicted of your utter evilness by having the prescence of God Holy Spirit convict and condemn you to cry out for salvation.  God's plan is to have us die to self and be raised up to be conformed into the nature of his son Jesus to dwell with God in obediance in heaven forever.  Sin is going to run its course. Preaching to people to call on Jesus in true conviction is what we are first to do.  Saving people from disease to just have a better life here is satanic humanism.  Repent and do the first works.  Love Jesus / God over all and then serve Him.  Yes, you can help people but we do it by the leading of the Holy Spirit, not some purveyor of evil that has ordained himself a "christian" in his mind, but never seen himself as an utter sinner, so as to die and be born again.  Sola Deo Gloria,  Dave Parrish

37/54. Mr.
Written by William P  | Dec. 13, 06 09:08

Let me get this straight.  There is a disease in the world called AIDS which has predominately been spread by actions that the Bible condemns such as promiscuity, especially homosexual acts.  Knowing people know that sin affects others and this is shown in the AIDS epidemic since innocents such as young children have contracted this disease.  Jesus told the women at the well to sin no more.  He didn't say that she could keep on sinning because he would get all his friends as well as the Roman government to raise money to help support her sin by taking away any complications that many arise because of that sin.  Let me also get this straight.  The remedy for the AIDS situation in the mind of  Rick Warren can be found not by searching the scripture but by by getting some people together to talk about what they can do.  At least one of the helpers Warren gathers is BO, a democrat who supports not only the dismemberment and subsequent killing of children who are alive and partially born but also supports homosexual activity and will do what he can in the government to protect that activity.  So instead of agreeing with scripture about the answer to the problem, Warren has gathered promiscuity-supporters like BO so they can figure out some way that people can keep their rebellious (against both God and people including children) lifestyle without negative fallout such as AIDS occuring. Rick Warren wants people to come up with a "better" way to solve the issue.  In other words, he has rejected THE answer for another "answer" that can be found in the great wisdom of the licentious-supporters.  Deceived people can label this activity as "Christian and compassionate" but God is not mocked or fooled.   Instead of using his influence to encourage people to turn from their sin to the only Savior, Warren does the opposite it appears.  The fuel for AIDS across the globe is promiscuity, especially homosexual actions.  If people repented and did what scripture said concerning their lifestyle, the spread of AIDS would soon be checked.  Not everybody is interested in this solution to the AIDS problem so it is not a good one you might say.  Well, not everybody is interested is doing what the Bible says to get saved but that hasn't caused the Savior to come up with plan B,C,D+.  People have been given free will to make their choices and this is why everybody will be judged according to their choices made.  They can choose Gods way, the way of life.  Or they can choose the opposite, the path of destruction, suffering and death.  To try to fix the "system" so that people can choose the road of suffering death but still ride the high road of life is actually working against the principles of God.  I could go on and on but suffice it to say that a lot of things have been done and will continue to be done in the name of "faithful" religion.  The coming great judgement of our God will separate the wheat from the chaff.

38/54. Interesting Bible passages
Written by klhayes  | Dec. 17, 06 10:01
Exodus 21:17 States "Whoever curses his father or mother shall be put to death."

I don't think any of us would be alive if this were followed today!

Exodus 21: 22 "When men have a fight and hurt a pregnant woman, so that she suffers a miscarriage, but no further injury, the guilty one shall be fined as much as the woman's husband demands of him, and he shall pay in the presence of the judges."

As a thinking human being, I have to determine what in the bible is relevant and what should no longer be practiced in today's culture. My brain does not stop when the pastor preaches, when a bishop proclaims a doctrine, or I open a Bible.  Some religions are built on particular passages in the Bible.  People are always choosing to ignore or adopt certain beliefs from Scripture.  And even if I adopt certain biblical principles, I cannot shove them down people' throat (tithing, Jesus is the Messiah, etc.)

So all Christians need to acknowledge that it is impossible to practice everything in the Bible and that it is ok to disagree.

39/54. The Contemporary Pharisee
Written by Steve  | Dec. 19, 06 14:38

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all (James 2:10)

For all those who condemn with such vitriolic anger and even hatred, have you ever broke the law of God in one point? If so-you are guilty of breaking the whole law. Have you perfectly loved God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength today, or even this past week? You violate the first command, the "greatest command" of God, yet you make abortion the chief one. Have you loved your neighbor as yourself? Have you loved the neighbor in Africa with AIDS? Have you loved the 15 year old girl raped who felt forced to have an abortion? Have you demostrated Gods love on here? To Rick Warren? To Obama? You violate the second "greatest commandment." "Be Holy as I am Holy!" Does anyone here really think they keep this one!

To make abortion the only moral issue (and neglect the rest) is to violate the law of God! We are to address in our lives the entire counsel of God. The pharisee picked and chose the morals they wanted to observe, and used them to condemn, and reject those who Christ loved. Are you one of the "whitewashed tombstones" (Christs reference to Pharisee's), who neglect to see their own sin, in violating the greatest command, and point fingers to the sin in Obama's life, or Rick Warren's life, by selectively looking at one or two moral issues, and neglecting the counsel of God in all of life?

We all deserve God's judgement. Our only hope is God's mercy and grace, demonstrated in sending Immanuel. That is your only hope, as well as Obama's and Rick Warren. Come and celebrate, Immanuel, God with us, who come to save sinners, even those you condemn.

I address the points Steve makes in his email dated the 19th of December.  It is the classic counter attack of those who criticize any who condemn the actions of Rick Warren and his false teachings.  They trot out the claims of "you are a Pharisee".  Oh, you have sin in your life, so how can you talk about the sin in anybody else's life."  I know all of the verses dealing with this topic and I also know that it is my duty to discern and to JUDGE what comes out of the mouth of a so called preacher and to determine if this is the word of God, or just the words of a man.  I check his doctrine and I examine his actions to see if his life and his words are lined up with Biblical principals and sound Biblical doctrine.  If the standard is that noboday gets to talk if sin is in ther life, then Peter, Paul and all of the original Apostles that spread the Gospel would have been disqualified so I reject this obviosly silly argument.  Nobody who rejects the false teaching of Rick Warren is doing so from a postion of strength as a member of the Sanhedrin; so this argument is specious.

What we can see is that Rick Warren is making political gestures to politicians.  He is making an idiot out of himself in foreign countries with despots (Assad) that are sworn enemies of the people who are the apple of God's eye (Israel).  Not only has he done these things, he has returned and then made misleading statements to outright lies about his activities.  He is linking his activities to a man who endorses the wholesale slaughter of unborn children.  Now I ask myself what would Jesus do?  I know that he would be very grieved by Rick Warren's comments about Syria; Syria is one of the world's primary supporters of terrorism, yer Rick went over there and said nice things about Assad.  Warren looked like a total buffoon; a back channel for peace?  I don't think so.  As far as conducting his affairs with the modern day baby killer Obama, I don't think Jesus would have too many kind words for Rick on this topic either.  He'd probably say something cryptic like "you're either with me or you're against me" and move on.  A guy like Rick Warren probably would not get it, because he will be one of those who will be surprised perhaps one day when he pleads but "Lord.....I did all these things....."...."get away from me ...I don't know you" says the Lod Jesus.

Rick Warren....Rock Star.........Purple HAZE has clouded his vision....has it clouded your vision as well Steve?

Senator Obama's stance on AID's is hypocritical. AIDS is a disease that for the most part is contacted by being secually immoral. I am not saying that I am against helping AIDS victims. But it does strike me as odd that Senator Obama is willing to spend money and raise support for victims of a disease that was brought into our world by sin, but he is an avid supporter of killing innocent babies in the womb. Did Rev. Warren make it clear that they do not support Senator Obama and did he publicly (and to Senetor Obama's face) condemn him for his support of homosexuality and abortion? If so then I see no problem with having the senator at his church. I have not heard that Rev. Warren did though. So all he did was strengthen an immoral Senator's image in the eyes of our country. Jesus did accept all people, but he also pointed out the sin in their lives. How much longer can an already sinful America avoid God's wrath when our own religious leaders start strengthening the positions of ungodly men?

You must be kidding, right?  This has nothing to do with politics, it has to do with Biblical morality.  To claim "Why the attacks?  Because they disagree with Obama's politics" is rather absurd.  We object to abortion on moral, not political, grounds.

At some point, both sides of the fence will realize that this is not about liberal versus conservative, or democrat versus republican, it is about right and wrong.  And we can not tolerate those who advocate moral wrongs.  Period.

I have a funny sounding name too. Can I be special? Every freakin election the democrat party marches out a cast of characters with fanfare, pomp and splendor befitting the procession into Rome by a victorious emperor. Hey, that reminds me, where is Oblama's love slave? They make a big hollywood production over this stooge and that stooge portraying them as the second coming of Jesus Christ. It's such absolute media hype super BS. Remember when Kerry was the greatest saviour known to western man....until he revealed himself as a freakin effete east coast limousine liberal snob. Hillary was the "smartest woman in the world"...remember that propaganda? And still they roll out this circus every four years and still the media puppies follow them around urinating in submission to the big democrat dogs. The only thing more insane are the mindless followers of the left who swallow this pablum and beg for more....swooning over every move the chosen democrat makes. We had reporters stating aloud they would blow slick Willy (just for keeping abortion legal). How many will offer to wipe Oblama's butt and change his diaper for him? It is just all too hard for me to comprehend. I'll have to expend 100 rounds at the range this afternoon just to relieve the frustration. This country is headed for a world of hurt. Maybe the Islamo-terrorist have it right,.....we are so corrupt, immoral and decadent that we are infecting the rest of the planet and need to be erradicated. We are supposed to be electing the preeminent leader of the free world.....Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Mark Foley, Denny Hastert, John (the weasel) McCain, John Conyers, John Murtha, Barak Oblama, Hillary Clinton????? Heck, these clowns make John Edwards look almost normal. Why not elect James Brown, he's dead and can't make any decisions that will screw up my grand kids future forever? At least we would get real entertainment.

hey guys it's really simple.  We all have issues that we think are important.  For us (in the relm of politics) the right wingers & Christians, we beleive that pro-life issues are of the highest prority. Other subject such as creationism, the homosexual agenda and other similar topics are also very important.  I personally see other issues as being important aswell such as aids, health care, womens rights (within reason) , the poor and other issues that are normally attached to the left wingers.  Having said that, WE - as people of faith ,I feel should or must make tough decisions.  It's not that I agree with everything the GOP stands for, on the contrary.  But I have to side with the party that comes closest to what I think Jesus would consider the most important issues. Notice I said the most important, I didn't say the other issue didn't have importance.  I assume other ministers of faith  have had the problem of making compromises as well - in regards to their politic afliations.  Simply put I cannot ever vote for someone who says that it's OK to abort a baby who is innocent regardless of how he/she was conceived.  Rember the story in the Bible where God sent all of the children of Israel to Babylon for allowing their countrymen to sacrifice their children to the god Molech? I find this to be similar to our abortion situation.  I think if we only elected officials that were pro-life we've won one sgnificatant battle.  I say one because all of those other issues that we both believe need some improvement could be addressed as well.  If we joined together we would have a powerful position to make the politicians sit up and listen.  As it is now the RP cannot win without us conservative Christians.  We cannot win out right either so unfortunately we have to work together.  Simply put , to me it's just a matter of priority.

In regard to Americans being Dems and Reps first and Christians second, I would put forth this challenge:

Resign from your parties and live the life that Jesus taught. If we are really Christian first then we should be Christian second as well. Want to change the world, or at least the U.S., or at the very minimum the state you live in? Live like a Christian and don't worry about politics. Any lifestyle that states that salvation equals Jesus plus anything is non-Christian. Salvation is not Jesus plus the Democratic or Republican platform any more than Jesus plus dietary laws or circumcision. Christians must feed the poor, care for the environment, preach the gospel and be concerned about justice in Jesus' name, not the name of a political party.

I have to say that I am proud to see so many true Christians stand behind the word of God even in the face of such adversity and persecution.  You are to be applauded!  The scripture that ultimately applies to the current dilemma of Dems vs. Repubs comes down to this Matthew 6:24:

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

To  be true to God, even with all of our shortcomings, we must strive to follow His word.  Will we sin?  Absolutely, it is the carnal nature of man, that doesn't bar us from eternal life, nor does it disqualify us as Christians.  But what we must understand is that if we bow to the will of the majority and compromise biblical principles we allow a foothold to develop in our spiritual lives.  This will only grow with more compromises until we have fallen away.  Our God is a God of law.  He respects the law of man.  When we vote to put leaders into position, their vote represents us, we basically state that we agree with their principles whether they be Godly or not.  Now, there will always be some disagreements, but overall we are looking at the morality in line with biblical mandates.  Abortion tends to be a main issue with me because by it being legal it looses the spirit of murder in the land, and pollutes the land with innocent blood.  And we wonder why our children are killing one another?  There is so much more than just a "civil right" when it comes to supporting a candidate.  God didn't  create us "equal", we are all blessed with unique talents and gifts, it is the unequality in this distribution that makes each individual special and important to the body of Christ.  Therefore, socialism and marxism is not the compassion and love we should embrace as Christians. We must choose this day whom shall we serve.  If we choose God, we must serve Him in truth and spirit, and that means standing up in the face of adversity, persecution, and unpopularity.  Again I applaud those who have stuck by your guns and not been swept away by every wind and doctrine.

May God strengthen and bless the work of your hands for the furtherance of His kingdom.
